Warhammer 30K- Storm Raven

One of the hobbies I have is wargaming. One of the game I enjoy the most is the Warhammer series by Games Workshop. I have been reading the Horus Heresy books since the first one came out and have been building a 30k army since The Betrayal at Calth box sets came out.

Recently I purchased a Storm Raven by GW and have started to build it. It is a great kit with some typical large vehicle issues. I've completed the interior and here's what I have done:

Looking into the crew compartment from the front. You can see the troop seats and contol panels on each side and the back ramp. I have gone for a realistic military look to the interior using my experiences in the Army and lots of time spent in both M113s and M577s. The interior was airbrushed a flat white to start. then washes applied to each corner and low points. The seats were painted burnt umber and the control panels detailed out.

Cables and wiring were painted in various colors to stand out against the dirty white background. Yellow was used on the monitors to symbolise data streams.

The deck grating was painted boltgun metal then washed with a strong tone brown.

You can see just how big this model is going to be once I place a SGT into the troop compartment.

The main issues with the model are the gaps in the major pieces. This issue will be fixed by green stuff liberally applied to these gaps prior to the priming and painting of the exterior.

You may well ask, "Thorny! Why are you spending so much time painting the inside when you will only be able to see it if you open the front troop hatch?"

I'll know it's painted. Why half-ass something when you can do it the right way?

OK- I'll post updates to this as it happens. See you guys later!

Heavy Infantry (Part One)

Today begins a discussion on creating a Heavy Infantry impression for Live Action Role Play. Thorwald starts by explaining what the Heavy Infantry is in relation to the light and medium infantry and covers (no pun intended) the legs with the Epic Armoury Blackened Balthazar Full Leg Guards.
In addition Epic Armoury;s Epic Dark Founds and Tassets are shown as well as a mail skirt to provide total leg protection from the Heavy Infantry.

Stay tuned for further videos on the Heavy infantry!

Mytholon product review!

We got a box in the mail the other day, full of goodies from our friends from Mytholon. The order consisted of trousers, doublet, coif and cap. Enough to make an entire new outfit!

Thorwald talks about the company, Mytholon, and reviews each of the items.

The miniature wargame Warhammer is the basis for several larps in Europe and so it is only fitting that Thorwald joins in on the fun.

Medium Infantry

Thorwald discusses putting your armor together for Bicolline, creating a medium infantry impression. Using the basic costume toolkit of boots, pants and tunic Thorny adds a light padded jacket, riveted aluminum mail, plate lower arm defenses to build the impression.

The pants were Medieval Renaissance Pirate Lace-up Pants {Chocolate}off of Amazon for $38.00 They have a drawstring waist and laces on the sides- made from a semi-stretchy cloth. Not sure If we recommend these as we don't think they'll last one on the field but they are ok for light cos-play or LARPs with limited combat.

The tunic is Epic Armoury's Basic tunic in brown and black for $40.00. This is a great base piece to create a nice looking tunic with the additions of some coloured trim at the collar and sleeve cuffs.

The mail is from Kult of Athena : Hauberk - Dome Riveted Round Rings and Alternating Flat Rings
$197.95

The plate arm defenses are Epic Armoury's Dark Bazuband set for $84.00

PRODUCT REVIEWS!

This week we will publish about four videos on various things. Today we are talking about two items we recently got in at The Larp on the Borderlands, The Calimacil Crezter Dagger and the Mytholon Ansgar shirt.

We've decided to break the videos up into smaller pieces to speed up loading times as all together we made about an hour and a half worth of video.

So- here is the first part.

Enjoy!
